Manchester United are so injury-ravaged at the moment that manager Erik ten Hag is having a hard time trying to select a competitive first XI.

The Red Devils are worst affected at the back with their first-choice entre-back pairing of World Cup winners Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez both ruled out for the season.

The Dutch boss is also without both his left-backs with Ten Hag forced to play right-back Diogo Dalot on the left, where he performed exceedingly well, capping it off with a goal against Nottingham Forest.

    United need new defenders

Backup pair of club captain Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been linked with an exit in the summer and Ten Hag does not see the defenders of being of the required level of a club of United’s stature.

That is why the 20-time English league champions have been linked with a plethora of defenders, with Napoli’s Kim Min-jae leading the race along with the likes of Jurrien Timber and Goncalo Inacio.

However, Monaco’s Axel Disasi has overtaken them all in that list as was recently reported by The Peoples Person.

And now Football Insider have claimed that the Ligue 1 side are open to selling their star man for £40million.

“Disasi has two years remaining on his contract and Monaco are open to selling him this summer provided their £40million valuation is met.

“Disasi has risen towards the top of United’s defensive shopping alongside Napoli centre-back Kim Min-Jae,” the report claimed.

Axel Disasi for £40m makes a lot of sense

The Reds will have to contend with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for his signature but they are in pole position to complete the deal.

West Ham were also linked with a move for the Frenchman but he has since made it very clear that he wants to move to a big club and the Hammers have thus backed off.

The 25-year-old has made 42 appearances in all competitions and chipped in with six goals and four assists during that time.

The France international can also double up as a right-back if required and positional versatility is something Ten Hag admires a lot.
