These oat flour cookies are indulgent and incredible. They are meant to be dessert, and not a healthy treat (even though they are made with quality ingredients!). If you’re looking for a butter free recipe, try my vegan chocolate chip cookies.

When the spontaneous cookie craving hits, your raid your pantry to see what you have to satisfy that sweet tooth!

Thankfully my pantry is always stocked with my staple baking goods, which is easy to do when you have the right supplies! My Rubbermaid EasyFindLids keep all my flours and sugars sealed airtight and nestled perfectly together and organized.

Not only do my Rubbermaid containers keep my ingredients fresh, I also use them to store cookie dough in the freezer, and the baked cookies once they’re done!

How To Make Oatmeal Flour

When baking with oat flour it is easiest to purchase store bought oat flour. However, it is possible to make your own if you have a high speed blender!

  • Add oats to the blender.
  • Blend on high until the oats are pulverized into flour.
  • Check for any chunks and keep blending until they’re gone.
  • Store in a Rubbermaid storage container with the EasyFindLids System™ in the pantry for up to 1 year.
  • Make sure to measure your oat flour after it has been blended.

Preparation Tips

  • Making cookies with oat flour is easy as long as you use the right ingredients. If you stray from this recipe if will change the end result.
  • As with any baking, when you’re making recipes with oat flour for the best texture you need accuracy when measuring. Which is why I include precise weights. If you don’t have a scale, then you can purchase this fairly inexpensive one.
  • If you prefer to measure the oat flour without a scale, then measure by scooping your measuring cup into the flour versus spooning it into it. This is how I measured when getting my weights.
  • I suggest baking these oat flour cookies on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Parchment helps crisp the cookie for that perfect outer texture.

Common Questions

Can I use oat flour instead of all-purpose flour in cookies?

It is possible to substitute oat flour for all purpose flour, however it needs to be done by weight, not a simple measurement. Additionally, oat flour is naturally gluten free so it will have an effect on the end result. It is best to find specific oat flour cookie recipes like this one!

How does oat flour affect cookies?

Cookie recipes with oat flour tend to be more crumbly than others. For this reason the right mix of ingredients is crucial. When done right, oat flour cookies are extra flavorful and perfectly chewy!
