Chelsea and Liverpool are firmly in the bidding process to secure the services of AC Milan forward Rafael Leao.
Leao has been linked to United multiple times with the Red Devils keen to add attacking reinforcements when the summer transfer window opens.
The Peoples Person relayed earlier this week that Leao’s priority is to remain in Italy. Contract talks with AC Milan are ongoing although there is no final agreement on the table.
Fichajes have reported that Liverpool and Chelsea are the English clubs currently contesting for the Manchester United target.
The outlet pointed out that Liverpool, who are planning a huge spending spree, have Leao on their radar. Jurgen Klopp has repeatedly said in public that the Merseyside club will dip into the market for new recruits.
As per the report, should Liverpool emerge successful in their efforts to sign the explosive winger, he would arrive in the Premier League as a bombshell addition to Klopp’s ranks.
Big spenders Chelsea are also in the running for the 23-year-old.
Todd Boehly wants to continue with the London club’s transfer policy of signing the best talents around Europe.
Faced with a lack of sufficient quality in front of goal, Leao is viewed within Stamford Bridge as someone who could be a potential solution.
Chelsea are unlikely to pursue a permanent deal for Joao Felix, who has not had the desired impact at the club. Felix’s return to Atletico Madrid would pave the way for Leao to come in.
Another report from the same outlet pointed out that Leao’s agent, Jorge Mendes is attempting to take advantage of Los Blancos’ desperate need for a replacement for the ageing Karim Benzema to procure a sensational move for his client to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid fans are clamouring for a striker. The pressure could force Florentino Perez and the hierarchy at the club to sit down and explore a deal for the AC Milan star.
The Italian giants value Leao at €100m. Madrid have no intention of paying such a figure and if need be, will wait an extra year so as to sign the player as a free agent when his contract at the San Siro expires.
Carlo Ancelotti has already given the green light for a transfer pursuit of the Portuguese forward.
With United focusing all their attention on signing either Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen, their European rivals are making moves behind the scenes to beat them to the services of their alternative targets such as Leao.
