The ongoing sale of Manchester United continues to drag on, with the third round of bids recently submitted.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS consortium and Sheikh Jassim’s Nine Two Foundation remain the front runners to gain control of the club and are both expecting responses from the Glazer family in the near future.

Both parties have made bids of around £5 billion, which is short of the Glazer family’s £6 billion valuation.

Whoever does finally take over the reins at Old Trafford will be overseeing the dawn of a new era in the red half of Manchester.

As reported by ESPN, Sheikh Jassim is confident of winning the race and is already planning some major changes at the club.

Sheikh Jassim is ready to offer prominent roles to former United stars, in a bid to reset the culture at the club.

These would leave the door open for members of the class of ’92 to be back involved at the club, as well as other key members from successful United teams from bygone years.

Darren Fletcher is currently the only former player to be employed in an active senior role by United, with other club legends in ambassadorial roles.

Such a move is designed to inject the club with its rich history, with the hope for it to filter down to the current crop of players.

It’s a model successfully used by German giants, Bayern Munich, who have multiple former stars in the foreground of their backroom staff.

However, there are obvious dangers to handing out roles to anyone who has previously pulled on the red shirt, with United needing the suitable best in class across all roles at the club.

United boss, Erik ten Hag, will be desperate for a conclusion to the sale with the summer window fast approaching and his transfer kitty highly dependent on the outcome.

Sheikh Jassim seems to be the fans’ choice to take over, with the promise of funds in the market and redevelopment of the stadium and surrounding facilities prominent within his proposed offer.
