Manchester United legend Gary Neville has remarked that both bids from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani have their own merits.

In an interview with CBS Sports Golazo, Neville doubled down on his well-known public stance that there is no room for the Glazers to remain at the club.

When questioned about who his preferred bidder between Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim is, Neville refused to definitively pick one suitor.

He pointed out that as it stands, it’s a waiting game and both proposals have advantages that would improve United both on and off the pitch.

The former United defender however said that under no circumstances should private equity funds be allowed to invest in the club.

It has been repeatedly mentioned that in addition to Sir Jim and Sheikh Jassim, there are private U.S-based hedge funds such as Elliott Management, Ares Management and Carlyle keen on completing a minority takeover.

These groups would allow the Glazers to remain in charge at Old Trafford while making significant funds available to undertake a redevelopment of the stadium.

Neville told CBS Sports that his opposition to such firms is drawn from the fact that football is essentially an emotion-based game and a club of United’s stature requires an owner connected to the club.

As per the United legend, private equity firms from the U.S. are likely to be driven by a desperate need to make money and guarantee a return on their investment.

Neville pointed out that United’s dire state requires someone who will be motivated by the need to see the team win and improve footballing-wise.

The 48-year-old however noted that not all U.S – based parties are not good.

“My main concern is that the Glazer family sells…because the club is deteriorating under their ownership.”@GNev2 on what he believes Manchester United’s next step in ownership should be. 🗣️ pic.twitter.com/VrTrdRlvuE

He gave the example of Crystal Palace’s Parish as an American businessman who manages a Premier League club well and pumps his money into it.
